Saint Edward’s Sophomore Michael Kaiser receives Presidential Service Award

VERO BEACH — Michael Kaiser of Stuart, a sophomore at Saint Edward’s School, has been awarded The President’s Volunteer Service Award, presented by the Corporation for National and Community Service, for 250 hours of service to the Smithsonian Marine Station in Fort Pierce.

At a ceremony at the Smithsonian campus, Michael received a letter of congratulations, signed by President Obama, for receiving the President’s Volunteer Service award, a President’s Volunteer Service Award Pin, and a Certificate of Appreciation from the Smithsonian Institution in recognition of valuable service.

Michael has been working with Dr. Nicole Fogarty at the Marine Station, whose work focuses on the complex chemical signals controlling coral spawning.

Michael has been able to use his time with the Marine Station to also perform his own independent research, which he recently presented in a symposium at Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute.
