Treasure Coast Pilot Awards presented to six young men and women

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The annual awards banquet for the Treasure Coast Pilot Club of Vero Beach was held Monday, April 16, at CJ Cannon’s Restaurant in Vero Beach. Awards were presented to six outstanding young men and women in our community.

Each year TCPC awards four $500 scholarships to help further the education of local students. The criteria for this scholarship include: academic achievement, community volunteer activities, extracurricular activities, and a 500 word essay expressing his/her views on the value of community service.

The recipients for 2012 are: Leslie Brocksmith, a senior at Sebastian River High School; John Flannery, a senior at Sebastian River High School; Tanner Knight, a senior at Vero Beach High School; Justin Nathaniel, a senior at Sebastian Senior High School.

Awards were also presented to two ROTC students from Vero Beach High School for their outstanding contributions to the community. Their combined hours of service total over 2,000. This year’s recipients are: Addison Durrell, a freshman, and Savannah Martin, a senior.

Phyllis Lembo, president of TCPC, presented a $2029 check to Peggy Davidson of the Alzheimer/Parkinson Association. TCPC sponsors the Alzheimer/Parkinson’s Project Lifesaver, and the proceeds from the club’s annual Pancake Day were donated to help continue this worthwhile project.
