“Night at the Movies” to be presented by VBHS Music Department on May 22

VERO BEACH — The Vero Beach High School Music Department presents “Night at the Movies” 2012 Pops Concert on Tuesday, May 22, at 7 p.m. in the VBHS Performing Arts Center at 1707 16th St. in Vero Beach.

The performance will feature the VBHS Symphony Orchestra performing Bach’s “Toccata and Fugue” and Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 5,” both of which were featured in Disney’s “Fantasia.”

The VBHS Philharmonic Orchestra will perform the “Adagietto” from Mahler’s 5th Symphony, along with works by Shostakovich.

The concert will include tunes from movies such as Harry Potter, Aladdin, Indiana Jones, Chariots of Fire, Avatar, and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

The Vero Beach High School Orchestra Department is composed of over 150 student musicians, all between grades nine and twelve. This concert will also include performances by the Gifford Middle School Orchestras, all under the direction of Matt Stott.

Proceeds will benefit the education of Indian River County students by providing musical instruments and sheet music.
