US Navy AG & MM’s last meeting to be on May 19 at Marsh Landing

FELLSMERE — The last meeting of the US Navy AG & MM will be on May 19 at 9 a.m. at Marsh Landing, 44 N. Broadway in Fellsmere.

There will be an open menu. Come early and start with coffee. Everyone  is welcome.

The speaker will be George Sigler, originally from Abilene, TX. George became a US Navy Pilot and served on the USS Hancock (CVA) in 1952.

He also served in the Vietnam War.

George developed an ocean survival kit. He and another Navy Pilot floated in a rubber survival boat from San Francisco to Hawaii, a trip that lasted 56 days. After the trip, they sold thousands of the survival kits. (A kit like that would have been useful in WW ll.)

Mr. Sigler wrote a book about the raft trip called “Experiment in Survival.” He will be speaking about it at the meeting.

George will bring some of his books for anyone who would like to purchase.

Americo Giorgin passed away on April 27, 2012. A memorial will be held for him.

April 19 is Armed Forces Day.

There are some good speakers at our meetings, which are not to be missed. Please come and enjoy the camaraderie of old shipmates.

If any WW ll Veterans need an application for the Honor Flight To DC for the WW ll Memorial, pleas contact us.

The next meeting will be September 12, 2012 .

Have a great summer.
