Mary Louise “Coogie” Hourigan Powers, 92, Vero Beach

Mary Louise “Coogie” Hourigan Powers, 92, died May 5, 2012, at her home in Vero Beach.

She was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., and lived in Vero Beach for more than 30 years, coming from Great Neck, Sands Point and Locust Valley, all in New York.

She was an accomplished artist who maintained a lifelong interest in flowers and decorating.

She attended Manhattanville College in New York City.

She was a member of the Moorings Club, of Vero Beach, Sea Oats Garden Club, Creek Club of Locust Valley and Manhasset Bay Yacht Club, of Port Washington, N.Y.

Survivors include her son, Charles A. “Cap” Powers Jr.; daughters, Pamela M. Prokop and Patricia P. Woodlock; sisters, Rosina Bairstow and Elizabeth Burke; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles A. Powers Sr.

Memorial contributions may be made to McKee Botanical Garden, 350 U.S. 1, Vero Beach, FL 32963.

Services: A celebration of life will be at 10 a.m. May 9 at Holy Cross Church, Iris Lane and State Road A1A, Vero Beach.

Arrangements are by Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home, Vero Beach.
