Second annual Sea Oaks “Strides for Kids” continues to support Youth Guidance

VERO BEACH — The Second Annual Sea Oaks “Strides for Kids,”which was held February 18, raised over $800 for Youth Guidance.

More than 30 Sea Oaks members participated in this fundraiser that took individuals on a 3K or 5K run/walk throughout the Sea Oaks Beach & Tennis Club grounds. The monies raised will be used to support the various programs and services Youth Guidance provides to their clients.

Sea Oaks is one of many private clubs that takes part in the Youth Guidance Tennis Clinics Program which allows youngsters to learn tennis skills and practice their game with local tennis pros.

Sea Oaks has been a partner of Youth Guidance for over 10 years. Brad Leu, Director of Tennis, Ron Toperzer, Fitness Director, and Pat Hefferen, Fitness Committee Chairperson, organized “Strides for Kids”.

Youth Guidance volunteers helped sign in the runners, manned water stations and provided information about Youth Guidance to the public.

The mission of Youth Guidance is to match each of its nearly 700 at-risk K-12 grade children with a volunteer mentor 21 years or older and keep youth engaged in positive educational, cultural and recreational year-round activities.

The agency is actively seeking volunteers to serve as mentors, tutors, or periodic volunteers at ongoing activities for the unmatched children in the program, or to provide regular help in the office.

Youth Guidance is also looking for partnerships with businesses, service clubs and church groups to pair with their unmatched children for just one activity a year.

Persons interested in volunteering, becoming a mentor or community partner may visit www.IRCYouth.com or call (772) 770-5040 for more information.
