VERO BEACH — On Monday, April 2, the Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) & Hospice Foundation held its “Paradise Under the Palms” event at the Quail Valley River Club to thank major donors and community partners for their support of the Foundation.
During its most recent fiscal year, the VNA & Hospice Foundation raised nearly $1.5 million in support of the VNA’s home health and hospice care.
“Last year, the citizens of Indian River County, who needed home healthcare, opened their homes more than 86,000 times to the VNA,” said Carol Kanarek, Chairman of the VNA & Hospice Foundation.
“Imagine how comforted they were, knowing that on the other side of their front door stood a healthcare professional ready to meet their needs.” Kanarek also emphasized that the “Paradise” event is held every two years, which helps to ensure careful stewardship of donor dollars.
Jan McCoy, Chairman of this year’s “Paradise Under the Palms” event, expressed her thanks to the many community organizations and corporations that support the Foundation. Of special note were: Northern Trust, the VNA & Hospice Foundation’s investment advisor and “Paradise” Event Sponsor; The Bernard A. Egan Foundation, the event’s Donor Recognition Sponsor; and Cathy Egan Gilet of Indian River Travel of Vero Beach, the event’s Donor Gift Sponsor.
“The VNA is so fortunate to receive this community’s gifts of time, trust, and treasure,” said Wendy O’Neil, Vice President of the VNA & Hospice Foundation. “More than 350 volunteers donate tens of thousands of hours of time each year. Patients trust our nurses, therapists, and home health aides to come into their homes and provide care. And our wonderful donors share their gifts of treasure, allowing us to care for all of those who need our services, regardless of their financial means.”

About the VNA
The VNA of the Treasure Coast provides home healthcare services, including Medicare-reimbursed and private-duty nursing; home health aides; physical, speech, and occupational therapy; in-home companions; and personal transportation throughout the Treasure Coast.
The agency is also the only licensed hospice provider in Indian River County, offering end-of-life care in patients’ homes, local hospitals, nursing homes and assisted living facilities, and the VNA Hospice House.
