Patrick Jerry Durning, 84, Vero Beach

Patrick Jerry Durning, 84, died April 19, 2012, at the Arbors at Pointe West in Vero Beach.

He was born in Newark, N.J., and lived in Vero Beach for 18 years.

He also maintained a home in Neptune, N.J.

He worked for American Car and Foundry in New York City before joining Kennecott Copper Corp. in 1950.

He had a long career with Kennecott, working at its headquarters in New York City, Stamford, Conn., and Salt Lake City before retiring after 42 years.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army.

He was a parishioner at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Vero Beach and a charter member of the Utah Copper Club.

He was a graduate of Seton Hall University and completed the Management Program for Executives at the University of Pittsburgh.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Joan McGuire Durning, of Vero Beach; sons, Patrick M. Durning, of Freehold, N.J., Michael P. Durning, of Millstone, N.J., Brian T. Durning, of Salt Lake City and Peter C. Durning, of Vero Beach; daughters, Kathleen J. Durning, of North Palm Beach and Megan T. Durning, of Seattle; sister, Peggy Sokol, of Palm Harbor; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Richard and Joseph Durning; and sisters, Kathryn Durning and Sally Smith.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice Foundation, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. April 25 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Vero Beach, with military honors immediately following the Mass.
