Sarah Mosher is Exchange Club Student of the Quarter

VERO BEACH — Indian River Charter High School senior Sarah Mosher was named Exchange Club of Indian River’s Student of the Quarter. Mark Ashdown, chair of the Club’s committee, presented the award to her at a recent luncheon meeting at Culinary Capers in Vero Beach.

Her grandparents, Catherine and Carl Mosher of Vero Beach, and Charter High School teacher Jillian Kelly, accompanied her to the presentation. Her mother, Jennifer Mosher, was unable to attend.

Sarah entered Charter High School as a junior and enrolled in Honors and Advanced Placement classes. Her teacher described her as an outstanding and hard-working student. She was nominated as a Sunshine State Scholar and a Commended Student for the National Merit Scholarship.

Her extracurricular activities include National Honor Society, Marine Science Club (Ocean’s 22), History Club, Key Club, and Model UN. She volunteers at the Manatee Center in Fort Pierce on weekends.

Although Sarah has applied to a few Florida colleges, she has also applied to several schools in the northeast and hopes to attend an out-of-state school. She has not yet decided on her major field of study; her interests lie in Anthropology, Political Science, and Marine Science. She hopes to work with animals and says that her “ultimate goal is to make the world a better place.”

Exchange Club of Indian River honors students at the Charter High School and Vero Beach High School Performance-Based Program each year. Exchangites also provide the community with programs in youth activities, service, and Americanism.

Through participation in its national project, the Prevention of Child Abuse, the Exchange Club of Indian River’s Foundation supports a number of local youth-related projects and charities. Club members meet for lunch at Culinary Capers each Wednesday at Noon to enjoy programs on a wide range of civic, charitable, professional, personal, and business topics.

One of the Foundation’s major annual fundraisers is the 36th Annual Exchange Club Blue Water Open Dolphin Mania Charity Fishing Tournament to be held May 19. All proceeds benefit local child abuse prevention projects. The club also partnered with Childcare Resources of Indian River County to present the Fourth Annual Touch a Truck Family Festival.
