John M. Patten, 93, died April 3, 2012.
He was a native of Stafford Springs, Conn., and lived in Vero Beach for 24 years.
He served in the Army as a sergeant in the Amphibious Unit in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
During that time he was involved in three island assaults.
Before retirement, he was the chairman of the board of the Stafford Savings Bank.
After his discharge in 1945, he became treasurer of the Standard Card Clothing Co. of Stafford Springs.
He received his formal education at Wilbraham Academy in Massachusetts, and the Wharton School of Business of the University of Pennsylvania.
Survivors include his brother, Freeman F. Patten, of Port St. Lucie; sons, John M. Patten Jr., of Vero Beach and Robbin B. Patten, of Subic Bay, Philippines; five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Suzanne Foote Beckwith.

A memorial service will be at 11:30 a.m. April 12 at the Cox Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home in Vero Beach with the Rev. Michael W. Goldberg officiating.
