Charles J. Areni, 82, died March 30, 2012, at VNA/Hospice House, Vero Beach.
He was born in Camden, N.J., and moved to Sebastian 16 years ago, coming from Jensen Beach.
He was a telephone switchman and in 1973 transferred from New Jersey Bell to Bell South in Jensen Beach, retiring in 1996.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the Navy.
He was of the Catholic faith.
He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and a lifetime member of the VFW.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Gerry Areni, of Sebastian; sons, Charles S. Areni, of Sydney, Australia and Craig J. Areni, of Orlando; and three grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the VNA/Hospice Foundation, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960.
A private memorial service will be conducted ocean side.
A celebration of life will be at a future date.
