Massachusetts skydiver dies after hard landing at Skydive Sebastian

SEBASTIAN — The Sebastian Police Department is investigating the death of a skydiver from Massachusetts who suffered fatal injuries after a hard landing at Skydive Sebastian Friday evening. The skydiver has been identified as 30-year-old Jason Eisenzopf, of Fitchburg, Mass.

Eisenzopf died after a failed landing attempt at the Sebastian Municipal Airport.

Indian River County Fire Rescue responded to a call of “skydiver down” at about 6:30 p.m., according to spokesman Asst. Chief Brian Burkeen.

Eisenzopf was unconscious and was flown to Holmes Regional Medical Center’s trauma unit, where he was pronounced dead. Burkeen said Eisenzopf suffered multiple blunt force injuries.

“He’s jumped with us before,” said Skydive Sebastian owner Jim Iannacone before referring further questions about the incident to the Sebastian Police Department.

A message left with the Sebastian Police Department was not immediately returned.

According to reports, Eisenzopf skydived at Skydive New England in Maine. A message left at the business was not immediately returned.
