Darwin Smith, 83, Vero Beach

Darwin Smith, 83, died March 31, 2012, at VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach.

He was born in Hazard, Ky., and lived in Vero Beach since 1979, coming from Whitesburg, Ky.

He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Veterans of Vero and the Eagles all of Vero Beach.

He served in the Army during the Korean conflict.

Before retirement, he was the owner and operator of Baker Maytag Co. for many years in Whitesburg.

Survivors include his two stepdaughters, Susie Day-McGuigan, of Venice and Beverly Day Bolling, of Spotsylvania, Va.; sisters, Freda Brown, of Orlando and Hilda Smith, of Winter Haven; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Esta C. Smith.

Memorial contributions may be made to the VNA Hospice Foundation, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. April 4 at Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home, Vero Beach, with the Rev. L.C. Campbell Jr. officiating.

Burial will follow in Crestlawn Cemetery with military honors.
