VERO BEACH — A Vero Beach woman was killed and another injured Thursday morning in a traffic collision at the intersection of Date Palm Road and State Road A-1-A, according to the Vero Beach Police Department, which is investigating the crash.
Olga H. Cummings, 90, of the 3900 block of Ocean Drive, was driving east on Date Palm in her 2007 Ford vehicle when she collided with 82-year-old Martha Sassen, of the 100 block of Park Shores Circle, who was driving a 2012 Hyundai south on A-1-A.
The intersection of Date Palm and A-1-A is controlled with a stop sign for drivers on Date Palm. Authorities are investigating the cause of the collision.
Both women were taken to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center, where Cummings was pronounced dead. Sassen remains in “guarded” condition, according to the police department.
