Florida National Guard’s Army Band to join VBHS Band for concert on March 28

VERO BEACH — The “Governors’ Own” 13th Army Band of the Florida National Guard will perform a concert with members of the Vero Beach High School Band on Wednesday, March 28, at 7 p.m. in the VBHS Performing Arts Center, 1707 16th St.

This event is free and open to the public.

13th Army Band members are citizen-soldiers who serve their communities as students, teachers, administrators, clerks, or police officers, performing any of the trades and jobs you find in every community.

They are your neighbors, your barber, or the individual answering your questions at the hardware store. What makes them unique? They serve their country as soldiers whose military mission is music.

Serving the state of Florida, our nation, and our local communities since 1906, the citizen-soldiers of the 13th Army Band provide music for all occasions with eight distinctive ensembles.

The band has performed throughout the southern United States, Dominican Republic, Panama, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, Morocco, Saint Kitts, and Guyana for all branches of the Armed Forces and State Department.

As the official military band of Florida, unit members have enjoyed performing for many of the official state functions, such as the Governor’s inauguration, official visits of United States dignitaries including the President of the United States, and numerous foreign leaders.

In times of disaster, the band has supported the needs of our local communities in multiple roles, including providing relief supplies from the Florida Keys to Palm Beach during Hurricane Wilma for the residents of South Florida.

Organized in February, 1930, as the Band Section, Headquarters Battery, 265th Coast Artillery, the 13th Army Band has served the state of Florida and nation for over 70 years.

The “Governors’ Own” Concert on Wednesday, March 28, at 7 p.m. in the VBHS Performing Arts Center is an evening of tribute to all branches of our military, veterans and families, featuring patriotic music, songs and marches.

Your heart will swell with pride. Don’t miss it.
