UPDATE – CAMERA: News flash, you don’t know everything

UPDATE: I recently shot a baseball game with the new monopod. I’m happy to say that my suspicions were correct and I was in far less pain the next day.

———————————-

There’s a fine line between being stubborn, arrogant, and stupid. I unfortunately have been a little of all three growing up.

Recently, I finally followed the advice of a colleague – given a year ago – and bought another, taller, monopod. I’ve written about being a healthy photographer before and doing things to further your shooting experience but I overlooked probably the most damaging topic.

If you are going to use a monopod, make sure it is tall enough for you. It sounds like common sense, but it escaped me for the last 10-plus years. I’ve not shot a game with the new monopod yet so I do not know if it was the source of my morning-after game coverage pain, but I’m sure it won’t hurt shooting for two hours hunched over taking photos. (I’ll update this after my first night game.)

I have to admit, the taller one did cost around $60 more, almost double the one I had before. But, in the end it will be worth it if I can continue shooting the next day not being in pain.
