IRC Health Department offers free health education programs

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Indian River County Health Department is pleased to offer two free health education programs in March and April. These programs are geared at helping those in Indian River county who are struggling with childhood obesity and diabetes.

“I am delighted that the health department is able to offer these educational programs this year to help people in our county live healthier lives.” said Miranda Hawker, County Health Department Administrator.

Free:  We Can! Child and Family Health Education Program

This fun and interactive four-session program is open to all families in Indian River county and will help you and your family learn how to make healthier food choices, increase your family’s physical activity and reduce time spent in front of the television and computer.

Each session will be led by a registered dietitian or physical fitness professional. This program is on-going throughout the year and registration is required.

Free:  Self-Management Diabetes Education Program

Are you looking to learn more about your diabetes and lead a healthier life?  This free and fun program, open to all Indian River county residents, consists of three classes with instruction from a registered dietitian.

Participants will use interactive diabetes conversation maps to learn about controlling their diabetes, proper nutrition and avoiding complications.
