Shirley Basore Johns, 77, Sebastian

Shirley Basore Johns, 77, died Feb. 12, 2012, at Sebastian River Medical Center, Roseland.

She was born in Shady Spring, W.Va., and lived in Sebastian.

She earned her master’s degree from Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton.

She was a high school teacher for 37 years in Washington County, Md., and Broward County.

She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10210, Sebastian; a 1000-hour volunteer for the Sebastian River Medical Center Auxiliary; and volunteer for Indian River Elections Board and the U.S. Census Bureau.

Survivors include her son, Shawn Lee Basore, of Boca Raton; sisters, Helen Ciuffreda, of Lake Frederick, Va., and Juanita Sletterink, of Beckley, W.Va.; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Geneva Coffey and Joyce Shrewsberry; and brother, Gene Meador.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. March 2 at St. Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church, Sebastian.
