VERO BEACH — The two men accused of killing Brian Simpson in his island home shortly before Thanksgiving have been indicted by a Grand Jury. Henry Lee Jones and Darius Robinson face charges of murder, armed burglary and armed robbery.
The Grand Jury held a hearing Thursday and returned a “true bill” for the slaying of 41-year-old Simpson, who left behind a wife and two teen children.
Simpson apparently interrupted Jones and Robinson as they burglarized his home on Fiddlewood Road in the early evening hours of Nov. 17.
According to the Vero Beach Police Department, the Grand Jury took less than five minutes to return their verdict, which was based on testimony provided by detectives and crime scene investigators from the department.
Jones and Robinson were arrested on Nov. 22, five days after the murder.
The trial date for Jones and Robinson is pending as the indictment was the first step in the process of the court proceedings, the police department said.
The department provided the following prepared statement on behalf of the Simpson family:
“Kristen and her children and all of Brian’s family remain heartbroken by the loss of Brian. They grieve his loss and struggle every day missing him. But they are very thankful for the ongoing efforts and dedication of the law enforcement professionals and prosecutors, as well as for all of the community support they continue to receive.”
