Roland A. Winter, 87, Vero Beach

Roland A. Winter, 87, died Feb. 12, 2012, at Consulate Health Care in Vero Beach.

He was born in Perth Amboy, N.J. He was a Perth Amboy High School graduate, Class of 1941.

He entered World War II as a machine-gunner in the 77th Infantry Division, 307th Regiment Co. L, 3rd Battalion.

He earned battle stars for Guam, Leyte, Ie Shima, Kerama, Retto and Okinaw.

He was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Badge, Philippines Liberation Medal and Victory Medal.

He did occupation duty in Hokkaido, Japan.

After his military duty, he resumed his education at Rutgers University and Rutgers Law.

He received his bachelor of arts degree in 1948 and his doctor of law in 1950. He was admitted to the New Jersey State and Federal Bar in 1951.

He served as a municipal court judge from 1958 to 1967 and a municipal court attorney from 1958 to 1977 in Edison Township.

He later served as a New Jersey administrative law judge from 1994 to 1998.

Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Carolyn; son, Tod Winter, of Florida; daughters, Timmie Feinsmith, of Cherry Hill, N.J., Susan Antonelos, of Old Bridge, N.J., Kimberly Decker, of Westfield, N.J.; and five grandchildren.
