Dr. Chester S. Stachow, 74, Sebastian

Dr. Chester S. Stachow, 74, died Feb. 11, 2012, at Sebastian River Medical Center, Roseland.

He was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and lived in Sebastian for 12 years, coming from Lunenburg, Mass.

He received his doctorate at the University of Manitoba.

He worked as research scientist for the Canadian government in Ottawa and was a professor of biochemistry at Boston College.

While at Boston College, he published many research papers and received international awards for his work.

He also was an accomplished artist and sculptor.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Geraldine Y. Stachow, of Sebastian; daughters, Theresa Lorvig, of Durham, N.H., and Nichole May, of Lunenburg, Mass.; and five grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be from 1 to 3 p.m. March 31 at the Collier Club, Sebastian.

Arrangements are by Strunk Funeral Home and Crematory Sebastian.
