INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office is committed to keeping pharmaceuticals out of inappropriate hands and also out of our landfill and waterways. Residents can take expired or unused pharmaceuticals to the Sheriff’s Office for proper disposal during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Bring them to the front office and the Deputy will properly dispose of them.
Periodically, the Sheriff’s Office will hold a Pharmaceutical Take Back Day, when residents can bring expired or unused pharmaceuticals to specified locations for proper disposal.

For residents who cannot drive and who have at least a fair amount of pharmaceuticals for disposal, the Sheriff will send out a Deputy to collect them.
“Sharps” can be taken to the IRCHD Environmental Health, 2nd Floor for disposal.
Important: Residents may only transport pharmaceuticals that have been prescribed to them, not any belonging to friends or relatives. Transport the pharmaceuticals in their original container.
- DO Bring unused or expired prescriptions and Over-the-counter medication
- NO LIQUIDS
- DON’T Bring needles or other ‘sharps”- They cannot be accepted. Instead take those (used sharps) to the Health Dept., 1900 27th Street,
- DO NOT…give drugs to anyone else
- DO NOT…flush drugs down the toilet
