Harvey Bush, 84, Roseland

Harvey Bush, 84, died Monday, Jan. 23, 2012, in Roseland, under VNA Hospice care.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years Irene; his daughters Bonnie Rickel, Lois Bush, Sheri Reichert, and Leslie Bush; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents Harvey Henderson Bush, Sr., his mother Wilma Lucile Hostetler, and brother James Roland Bush.

He was born in Jacksonville.

Upon graduation from Robert E. Lee High School, he joined the Merchant Marines for duty during World War II.

Four years after his service, he graduated from the University of Florida with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.

During that time, he passed his professional engineer’s exam and earned a degree in business management from Alexander Hamilton Institute and a master’s of science in space technology from Florida Institute of Technology.

In 1972, he left the aerospace industry to join Greenleaf Telesca, a professional engineering firm in Miami, where he became an expert in solid waste technology.

From there he progressed to Waste Management, Incorporated, in Fort Lauderdale and rose to the level of vice president of Environmental Engineering, Southeast Region, before retiring in 1993.

The funeral service was held on Friday, Jan. 27, 2012, at the First Baptist Church in Vero Beach, (2206 Sixteenth Avenue), viewing at 10 a.m. and services at 11 a.m. followed by refreshments.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Children’s Home Society or VNA Hospice.
