VERO BEACH – – Mark your calendars for the inaugural fundraiser to launch Camp Haven, a proposed legal encampment for homeless individuals living right here in Indian River County. The event will feature an over-the-top secret speaker.
The event will take place on Thursday, Jan. 26, from 6:30 pm to 9 pm at the Holy Cross Parish Hall, 500 Iris Lane, Vero Beach, FL
“Not even the president of our board knows who the speaker is.” Sonya Morrison, Source Director said.
The Source will also be presenting Sheila Lopez, founder and chief operating officer of Pinellas Hope Project. Pinellas Hope is a temporary emergency shelter for over 250 homeless men and women; located in Clearwater, FL. According to the St. Petersburg Times, Sheila Lopez is the “white-haired enforcer, chief fixer, and mother hen”.
Lopez will be briefly sharing her experience in creating homeless camps just like the one in Pinellas County. The Source will display tents and a modular shower unit that will illustrate the quality of the environment that Camp Haven residents will experience.

The purpose of the Camp Haven Project is to offer a safe, legal place to sleep while providing case management support and life skills education for Indian River County residents who intend to rise out of homelessness.
The Source is a Christian outreach and resource center for homeless individuals and families at-risk. The doors of The Source open six days a week to provide people in need with nourishment for the body and soul. The ministry offers daily hot meals, an emergency food pantry, clothing, showers, counseling, support groups and a host of other services. We are located at 1015 Commerce Avenue in Vero Beach.
