Waldo E. Sexton, one of Vero’s most famous pioneers, was renowned for the diverse collection of artworks that continues to highlight his numerous properties, including the homestead he built more than a century ago. Now known as Waldo’s Secret Garden, the popular wedding venue showcased his own eclectic assortment of artworks alongside those of Treasure Coast artists at the second annual Waldo’s Secret Art Walk. Organized by Katherine Larson, founder of Isola Arts, and Charlotte Tripson, Sexton’s great-granddaughter and overseer of the whimsical estate, the event once again attracted several thousand visitors over the course of the weekend. More than 35 artists displayed their works throughout the property’s verdant walkways and patios, harmoniously complementing Waldo’s own distinctive treasures. An award-winning artist, Larson leads the Treasure Coast Plein Air painters on weekly outings. She illustrates children’s books and authored “Memories of the Treasure Coast,” featuring her plein air paintings of “Old Florida” landscapes. Larson curated the assembled group of artisans, whose selections included sculpture, jewelry, paintings, furniture, fabric, glass, textiles, ceramics and metal crafts, handmade notecards and illustrated books. Tours of the historic two-story ‘treehouse’ were also given, offering visitors a unique glimpse into the past. And the property, formerly the site of the Tripson Dairy, introduced Waldo’s Antique Art Barn this year, where unusual artifacts were available for sale. Sean Sexton, Indian River County Poet Laureate, famed local artist and Waldo’s grandson, showcased his own artistic talents, displaying his art and treating visitors to poetry readings. Isola Arts was created as a sort of moving art show, introducing patrons of the arts to unique venues where they can become fully immersed in the experience. In April, they will present Art on the Farm at LaPorte Farms, featuring an art competition and gallery show for young artists. And on Oct. 25-26, they will host the second annual Feathered Friends juried art show and open-air art fair at the Audubon House on Oslo Road.
