37th Citizens Academy underway at Sheriff’s Office

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Community involvement is the most powerful force any law enforcement agency has in the fight against crime. The 37th Citizen’s Academy is a free 11-week session that provides the community an overview of how law enforcement and the justice system work hand-in-hand to serve Indian River County.

Beginning Jan. 11, the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office invites the public to attend the Citizen’s Academy, which meets each Wednesday evening from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. now through March 28.

The academy provides citizen an overview of how law enforcement and the justice system work hand-in-hand to serve Indian River County. The goal of the academy is to provide a greater perspective, respect and appreciation for the challenges and decisions faced daily in safeguarding the community.

Students will receive dynamic sessions with Court Judges, State Attorneys, Public Defenders and knowledgeable instructors from all divisions of the Sheriff’s Office. Tour the Courthouse, the Jail, the 911 Center and the Special Operations Section of the Sheriff’s Office.
