INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Florida Department of Transportation and its project partners The deMoya Group and Cardno TBE are holding an informal open house Wednesday in Vero Beach to discuss the Interstate 95 widening project from the St. Lucie/Indian River County line to just north of State Road 60 (Exit #147).
The open house will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. at the I-95 Project Field Office, located at 1910 82nd Ave., Suite 106, in Vero Beach.
Construction is scheduled to begin January 9, 2012, and to be completed in early 2014. Construction cost of this 6.84-mile long project is $54.4 million.
FDOT and project staff will be available throughout the open house to discuss the project and answer questions. No formal presentation will be made.
The project includes:
- Adding one lane in each direction on I-95 from the St. Lucie/Indian River County line to just north of SR 60
- Milling off the old asphalt and repaving the existing lanes
- Constructing sound walls adjacent to the communities of Lakewood Village, Indian River Aerodrome and the Department of Corrections Housing
- Replacing the bridges at 4th Street (Citrus Road), 90th Avenue and State Road 60 (Osceola Boulevard)
- Reconstructing the State Road 60 interchange ramps
- Reconfiguring turning lanes and adding traffic signals at the 94th Avenue intersection on SR 60 just west of the I-95 interchange
- Traffic signal improvements
- Highway lighting improvements
- Landscaping improvements
This work will require lane and ramp closures. I-95 lane closures will occur overnight Sundays through Thursdays from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. At least one lane on I-95 will remain open in each direction. Full ramp closures will occur. However, no more than one ramp will be closed at any time. Also, widening of bridges will require intermittent closures on the crossroads.
