Dogs for Life to hold Assistance Dog Workshop

VERO BEACH — Dogs For Life, Inc., a local non-profit organization that trains service dogs for physically challenged, and hearing impaired individuals, will hold its annual Assistance Dog Workshop, Tuesday, Jan. 10 at 7 p.m. at the United Way office, located at 1836 14th Avenue, in Vero Beach.

Assistant State Attorney Chris Taylor will outline laws pertaining to guide, hearing and service dogs in public places as well as the penalties when interfering with these professionally trained dogs.

Shelly Ferger, DFL founder & executive director, will outline the DFL Assistance Dog Training Program, how an individual may qualify and how dogs are trained.

Darrell Horn, DVM & DFL Board Member will report on the program progress and future plans.

Ben Humphries, SSGT, US Army Ret. Co-Chair of the DFL Veteran Dog Training Program will give a talk on how service dogs are being trained to assist veterans with the effects of (PTSD), Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

This event is free to the public, refreshments will be served and assistance dog demonstrations will be performed.
