Artists Guild Gallery presents ‘Reality Check’ through January

VERO BEACH — The Artists Guild Gallery presents “Reality Check,” works in oil and acrylic by Guest Artist J. Stone, on view through Jan. 31, with an opening reception Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. during the 3D District’s Gallery Stroll.

A very diverse artist whose paintings are representative of a wide range of style and subject matter, Stone prefers to paint “out of the box” and let the brush be directed by the passion of the moment.

At times his work is edgy and abstract, other times impressionistic or representational. Not being afraid of color, his soft edges surround bold strokes, giving way to crisp clean edges here and there around the canvas.

Stone’s palette is also as diverse as his work, with some paintings taking on a cool sensitive palette, while others are hot and bold … a kind of “Reality Check” that swings from one design and color spectrum to the other, depending on the artist’s whim.

Stone shares his time between Vero Beach and Linville, N.C., where he is also active in the art community.

He has studied with such notable artists as R. C. Barr of The Forrest School, William J. Schultz, artist and founding member of the American Impressionist Society, and Charles Gruppé, and he has taken numerous workshops and classes both in Linville and Vero Beach.

Stone holds memberships in the Art Loft of North Carolina, Vero Beach Museum of Art, The Vero Beach Art Club, and is a Charter Member of the American Impressionist Society.

He continues pursuing diversity in his work and honing his painting and composition skills by delving into new ideas and techniques. “Painting is my playtime,” Stone said, “alone in my world of lines and colors … the results which others critique is the reality ‘check.'”

Constantly changing works by Gallery Member Artists and Consignors are also be on display in a vast array of styles and mediums, including paintings in all mediums, sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, pottery, glass and prints, and showcased are several new consignors in jewelry and sculpture.

The Gallery is located at 1974 14th Ave. in Vero Beach, and hours are Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and by special appointment.
