Jan. 3 is last day to register for Presidential Preference Primary

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Indian River County residents must be registered to vote by Jan. 3, in order to be eligible to vote in the Jan. 31 Presidential Preference Primary Election. In accordance with Florida Statute 97.055, the registration books close on the 29th day before each election. Once the registration books are closed, voter registration and party changes may be accepted for the purpose of subsequent elections only.

Florida runs closed Primary Elections. In Florida, Primary Elections (unlike in municipal, general and special elections), voters may only vote for the party candidates of the party for which they are registered.

This election is a Republican Primary Election. Since there is only one democrat candidate and no minor party candidates or amendments on the ballot for this election, it will be a partisan election for registered Republicans only.

Only persons registered as “Republican” may vote in this election.

To be eligible to vote in this election, voters must be at least 18 years of age, a US citizen, a legal resident of the State of Florida and Indian River County, and registered as Republican.

Persons who have been convicted of a felony or adjudicated mentally incapacitated with respect to voting must have their right to vote restored before they are eligible to vote.

Voter registration applications are available at the Supervisor of Elections office, public libraries, county offices, city halls or state agencies that provide public assistance.

Applications are also available on the Supervisor of Elections website at www.voteindianriver.com. Completed applications must be signed, dated and returned to the Supervisor of Elections office by the close of business on Jan. 3.

It is important to keep your voter information up to date. The information you provide determines your voting precinct and voter eligibility.
