INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Commissioner Bob Solari is this year’s Miser of the Year, according to the Taxpayers’ Association of Indian River County. He was so declared at Wednesday’s meeting. Community volunteer Victor Hart was given the Ted Brown Award.
Both awards were the culmination of a nominating process and evaluation. There were two nominees for the Miser of the Year Award and three for the Ted Brown Award for Volunteer of the Year.
“The Miser of the Year is a person concerned with tax savings and reduction of costs,” Taxpayers’ Association President Daniel Stump said.
Solari received the award “for his efforts to save taxpayers’ dollars,” Stump said.
“I would just like to thank you for this,” the commissioner said after the announcement was made.
He went on to say that he was looking forward to his Monday morning discussion with County Administrator Joe Baird, now that he’s one the Miser of the Year Award.
“One of the great arguments we have is which one of us is the most frugal,” Solari said. “Well, I’ll be able to bring this in next Monday and feel good because he’s got two of these sitting in his office.”
