Beginners’ Genealogy Classes being offered at Library

VERO BEACH — Have you thought about recording your family’s history but didn’t know where or how to begin? Well, there’s no better time than now to get started. Make a New Year’s Resolution to register for Beginners’ Genealogy Classes sponsored by the Indian River Genealogical Society in cooperation with the Genealogy Department of the Indian River County Main Library.

The series of eight classes begins Wednesday, Jan. 11, and runs through March 7. Classes will meet from 9:30 a.m. to noon in the large first floor meeting room of the library, located at 1600 21st Street, Vero Beach. All classes will be held on Wednesdays, with the exception of Jan. 17, which is a Tuesday.

Pamela J. Cooper, Supervisor of the IRC Main Library Archive Center and Genealogy Department, will be the instructor. Cooper has lectured and taught numerous genealogy classes since 1986 and is a nationally recognized speaker.

Topics range from very basic techniques of recording and organizing your records, to US Census records, Ancestry and Heritage Quest online, courthouse records, church and cemetery records, FamilySearch.org and newspaper databases, military records and immigration and naturalization records.

The fee for non-IRGS members is $35, which includes a one-year membership. Registrations must be completed by Jan. 6, 2012.
