Take a walk for rescue animals at 5th Annual Walk in a Pack and Poker Stroll

SEBASTIAN — Put your sneakers on, grab your favorite walking companion and join us Saturday, Dec. 10 for H.A.L.O. Rescue’s 5th Annual Walk in a Pack and Poker Stroll for Rescue Animals. Show your support for the only no-kill animal shelter in Indian River County. Registration begins at the Riverview Park Splashpad in Sebastian at 10 a.m., and the walk begins at 11 a.m.

In conjunction with the walk, the Florida Veterinary League is sponsoring a low cost vaccination and microchip clinic from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the H.A.L.O. Rescue shelter, 710 Jackson Street in Sebastian. The clinic is open to the public and no reservations are required. It’s a great opportunity to save money and protect your pet’s health all at the same time.

Along the one mile walk beside the beautiful Indian River will be stations where poker stroll participants will pick up their next playing card in hopes of acquiring the winning poker hand. Stations include Mulligan’s, Riverfront Chill and Grill, Captain Hiram’s, and Squid Lips. The player with the best poker hand will win a fantastic two night stay compliments of the Springhill Suites by Marriott in Vero Beach.

After the walk, everyone is invited to visit the shelter and enjoy a free lunch provided by Mulligan’s Beach House Bar and Grill.

At 12 Noon Santa arrives to see all his furry friends waiting to have their photos taken with him. Professional photographer, Misty Lundeen of A Misty Moment Photography will be taking photos to send to all your friends and family of their favorite furry nieces and nephews. And, as an equal opportunity shelter, H.A.L.O. Rescue and Santa are inviting children and families to have their picture taken too – it’s all for a great cause and it’s Christmastime.

At 12:30 p.m. the expert K-9 team from the Sebastian Police Department will take charge of the fenced dog park at H.A.L.O. Rescue and show off their talents. This team of professionals puts on a great K-9 demonstration – it’s fun, interesting and full of teeth baring excitement for everyone.

If you’d like to walk but don’t have a pet to bring, bring a friend or call H.A.L.O. Rescue and offer to bring one of the shelter pets out for the walk, they’d love it and love you for it.

Can’t attend, but still want to help? Remember, H.A.L.O. Rescue is a Florida 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and all donations are tax deductible.
