Dead camper found on Indian River Lagoon island identified

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Authorities have identified the camper found dead over the weekend on an island in the Indian River Lagoon as Aden Gotthelf, 42, of 1200 block of 29th Avenue in Vero Beach.

The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office, which is continue its investigation into Gotthelf’s death, does not suspect foul play.

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A 42-year-old man is dead after a night camping trip on Lost Tree Island in the Indian River Lagoon.

Deputies with the Indian River County Sheriff’s Department say there does not appear to be any foul play.

The medical examiner in St. Lucie County is expected to conduct an autopsy Monday.

Jeff Luther, the Sheriff’s Office spokesman, said that the man was camping with about four adults and three children on the island Saturday night.

Luther said the man was found unresponsive early Sunday morning.

Firefighters were sent to the scene.
