Charles A. Harris, Jr., 92, Vero Beach

Charles A. Harris, Jr., 92, died Nov. 28, 2011, in Vero Beach.

Harris was born in New York City, N.Y., and was a resident of Ft. Pierce and Vero Beach since 1980 having come from White Plains, N.Y.

He was regional vice president at Heublin Company in New York City for 25 years. He is a retired major in the U.S. Army having served in World War II.

He was senior past district deputy grand master of the Grand Lodge of New York, Past Master John Jay Lodge, White Plains, New York and a member of the 32 Degree Scottish Right Mason.

Harris was a founding member of Temple Beth El Israel in Port St. Lucie.

He was a volunteer for many years at Lawnwood Regional Medical Center in Ft. Pierce.

Harris was an avid lover of sports, particularly the NY Yankees, and was known by all in section 108 at the Port St. Lucie Mets spring training.

Harris was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Eleanor Stiller Harris.

Survivors include his brother, Joseph P. Harris, of Pomona, N.Y., daughter and son-in-law Betty and Douglas Barba, of Norwich, Vt., and two grandchildren, Jenny Barba, of Minneapolis, Minn., and Ryan Barba and his wife Katharine and his great grandson, Silas Charles Barba, of Bozeman, Mont.; his son Charles Henry Harris, of the Philippines and his children and grandchildren.

A private memorial service is planned for Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

Contributions in Charles’s name should be made to the Hospice of Treasure Coast or a Hospice of your choice.
