Harold E. Johnson died at his home in John’s Island, Vero Beach on Nov. 23, 2011.
Survivors include his wife, Elma Lowry Johnson; three children, JoAnn Rampton, of Charleston, S. C., Patricia Hunter, of Buffalo, N.Y., and Harold E. Johnson, Jr., of Alexandria, Va.
Johnson, a native of Utah, graduated from the University of Utah and later received an MBA degree from New York University.
Following studies at Dartmouth College, he was commissioned an ensign in the U.S. Navy and served four years as an officer in several staff commands.
As a lieutenant in the U.S. Naval Reserve, he returned to live on Long Island, and work on Wall Street.
Johnson was the executive vice president and chief financial officer as well as a director of Continental Corporation.
He also served as a director of Idaho Power Company, Diners Club, Franklin Life, Phoenix Assurance Company (London), Pan American Bank, New York Community Bank, Baltica-Skandia Reinsurance, 1st Insurance of Hawaii, Independence Holding Company and many others.
He was an advisor and trustee for the American Red Cross Endowment Fund, the Licia Albanese Puccini Foundation, the Ontario Hospital Association of Canada and the New York State Teachers retirement funds.
He also served six years as Mayor of Munsey Park in Manhasset, N.Y.
Services will be held at the Community Church in Vero Beach at 2 p.m., Monday, Nov. 28, 2011.
Interment will be at the John’s Island Cemetery.
