INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a crash involving an off-duty Indian River County Sheriff’s Office Deputy and a pedestrian on 2nd Street, west of 18th Avenue in south Indian River County around 6:30 p.m. Monday.
Deputy Adam Charles Dean, 22, was off-duty and in his personal vehicle, a 2008 Dodge Ram, when he collided with 22-year-old Eric Hayden Yates, of 1816 3rd Street.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Yates was walking east on 2nd Street in the westbound lane as Dean was driving west on 2nd Street.
Yates was critically injured in the collision and was transported to Lawnwood Regional with life threatening injuries.
