Theodore William Hakim, 79, Vero Beach

Theodore William Hakim, 79, died Nov. 14, 2011 at VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach.

He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and moved to Vero Beach in 2001, coming from St. Mary’s County in Maryland.

He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.

Before retirement, he had a long career in sales and marketing, first for P. Ballantine and Sons of Newark, N.J., brewers of beer and ale, and later for Everest and Jennings, manufacturers of wheel chairs and other devices.

He graduated from Manual Training High School and attended George Washington University.

He volunteered with the Vero Beach Theater Guild both on and offstage.

He was a member of the NRA, the American Legion and the Medical Center Auxiliary.

Survivors include his son, Bruce Hakim, of East Grand Rapids, Mich.; daughter, Carla O’Brien, of Round Hill, Va.; partner, Phyllis A. Taylor; and six grandchildren.

No services are planned at this time.
