INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — In this month of Thanksgiving there are so many things to be grateful for. At Children’s Home Society of Florida, Treasure Coast Division, the organization wishes to extend its gratitude is to the communities that it serves who help to break the cycle of child abuse in the lives of the most vulnerable children in our community.
With the observance of November as National Adoption Month, the nonprofit organization is celebrating the success of its Adoption Services Team, who have exceeded its adoption goals for the fourth consecutive year by 41 percent in 2011.
Children’s Home Society of Florida expects to reach 60 percent of goal by the end of November with 25 adoptions. Remarkably all of the adoptions finalized this past fiscal year by the Treasure Coast Division Adoption Services Team were for children in foster care, with nearly half of those for children over the age of four.
For the youngest of the children that Children’s Home Society of Florida serves on the Treasure Coast who remain in foster care, they are in need of six infant car seats, 12 booster seats and 12 convertible seats for case managers to transport clients to their placements, school, doctor’s appointments, therapy appointments, and for visitations with their parents and/or siblings.
“We are reaching out the communities that we serve in Indian River, Martin, Okeechobee and St. Lucie counties to help us to meet this need,” explained Jan Swink-Huffert, Executive Director, Children’s Home Society of Florida, Treasure Coast Division. “We can accept new car seats or monetary donations to purchase these much needed items.”
