VERO BEACH — The Vero Beach Equestrian Team came home as reserve champions from their recent two day Interscholastic Equestrian Association show in Bushnell, Fla. In its second year, the Vero Beach Equestrian Team is a talented and competitive group of seven riders representing many local middle and high schools in equestrian athletics.
Under the expert coaching of Heather Callahan, each of the riders won several ribbons in their classes.
The team brought three horses from their home Barn of Atlantic Crossings, and one of the horses won a ribbon for the high point horse.
The team competed against nine other IEA teams and more than 100 riders from around the state.
The IEA concept is drawn from the highly successful Intercollegiate Horse Show Association, helping to prepare high school and middle school students for college level riding.
The IEA provides competitive riding for the novice level rider (walk, trot, canter) all the way up to the more advanced open divisions.
Through IEA, students have the opportunity to win scholarships towards their college education, as well as the possibility to compete at regional and national championships.
