The Emerson Center presents a trilogy of musical Jazz on Sundays

VERO BEACH — The Emerson Center, along with presenting sponsor CenterState Bank, is proud to announce “Jazz on Sunday’s,” a trilogy of musical events to be introduced for Vero Beach’s upcoming social season.

Music will be performed by the Space Coast Jazz Orchestra, associated with the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra. This series will be the inaugural appearance for the Jazz Orchestra, boasting 18 seasoned Jazz musicians handpicked from the Central Florida area.

The first of the three-part series will be held on Sunday, Nov. 20 at 2:30 p.m. at the Emerson Center. The first concert is traditional big band, all played before, offering a great swing feel and great ensemble writing.

“An Afternoon with Basie, Ellington, & Friends” showcases the styles of music by these jazz artists who were the backbone of some of the musical heritage in America and Europe. Don’t miss this incredible inaugural concert that will have you tapping your toes all night.

The remainder of the series includes “A Stan Kenton Merry Christmas & Duke Ellington’s Nutcracker” on Sunday Dec. 18 at 2:30 p.m. The concert combines the gorgeous Stan Kenton Christmas music in the same program with the Duke Ellington’s Nutcracker…completely different styles, but incredible together.

The third part of the series cuts across all of Jazz and adds in guitar and a guest singer. It will be held on Sunday, March 11 at 2:30 p.m. when the Orchestra presents “Blues, Boogie, Be-Bop and Beyond.”

The Space Coast Symphony is a lively and passionate Central Florida orchestra comprised of professional musicians and select youth players.

The Orchestra was formed with a two-fold mission: to provide mentoring and performance opportunities for Florida’s finest youth musicians as well as to provide professional-level concerts at genuinely affordable prices.

The ultimate goal of the organization is to help ensure the symphonic tradition for the enjoyment of future generations.

The Emerson Center, at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Vero Beach, is conveniently located at 1590 27th Avenue, on the SE corner of 16th Street and 27th Avenue.
