Take a Veteran’s Day Cruise to the National Navy SEAL Museum

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Join Dr. Edith Widder, Lead Scientist and CEO at Ocean Research and Conservation Association (ORCA) and Captain Chop Lege, Audubon Warden and retired Navy Veteran, on a unique Veteran’s Day boat cruise on the Indian River Lagoon. The boat cruise will depart Friday, Nov. 11, at 10 a.m. from the Ft. Pierce Marina (Tiki Restaurant) in downtown Ft. Pierce.

Dr. Widder will share (what information she is allowed to share) her work experiences with the Navy Seals and the Office of the Naval Research and her present connection with the National Navy UDT-Seal Museum in Ft. Pierce.

Weather and tide conditions permitting, Capt. Chop will dock his boat at Wildcat Cove where the group will get an opportunity to walk to the National Navy UDT-Seal Museum. Dr. Widder, who serves on the Board of Directors for the National Navy UDT-Seal Museum, will lead the group to the museum with hopes of seeing the “dress rehearsal” for the upcoming sky jumping events for the Annual Muster Celebration.

The boat trip will last approximately two hours with fall season refreshments served on board. Cost will be $35 for Team ORCA Members and $45 for nonmembers with proceeds benefitting the scientific research at ORCA.

ORCA, which is a nonprofit research organization that operates with the scientific discipline of a research laboratory, is located at 1420 Seaway Drive in Fort Pierce. ORCA’s scientists and staff are currently working on the creation and implementation of high-tech instrumentation to observe and analyze the health of the Indian River Lagoon.
