Donald L. Mazzaia, 68, died Friday, Oct. 28, 2011, in Sebastian, where he lived for 10 years.
Donald was born Nov. 24, 1942, to Herwin Mazzaia and Jean Murray.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, he worked for Electric Boat, and then for Pfizer, of Groton, Conn., where he retired in December of 2000.
He enjoyed golfing, fishing, boating, kayaking, and life with Joan and many friends.
Mazzaia was a life member of the Gales Ferry Fire Company, where he was fire chief for many years.
Survivors include his wife Joan C. Baribeault Mazzaia; his children, Christopher Mazzaia, of S. Windham, Conn., Julie Whipple, of Bozrah, Conn., and Sherry Kiely, of Gales Ferry, Conn.; daughter in law Stacey Mazzaia ; grandchildren Mia, Dominic, Matthew, Travis, Curtis and Connor; son in laws Kevin Whipple, Kale Kiely; brother, David, of Muncie, Ind.; and several extended family members.
A memorial service was conducted at Seawinds Funeral Home in Sebastian, on Monday, Oct. 31, 2011 at 1 p.m.
Reception will follow at the Sebastian VFW.
A memorial service will also be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Gales Ferry, Conn., with a reception gathering at the Gales Ferry Fire House, at a time and date to be determined.
