Donald L. Mazzaia, 68, died on Friday, Oct. 28, 2011, in Sebastian, where he lived for 10 years with his wife Joan C. Baribeault Mazzaia.
Mazzaia was born Nov. 24, 1942, to Herwin Mazzaia and Jean Murray.
Mazzaia lost his battle with cancer
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, he worked for Electric Boat, and then for Pfizer, of Groton, Conn., where he retired in December 2000.
He enjoyed golfing, fishing, boating, kayaking, and life with Joan and many friends during his retired years.
Mazzaia was a life member of the Gales Ferry Fire Company where he was fire chief for many years as well as an EMT.
Donald sacrificed a great amount of time to his community for many years.
Survivors include his children, Christopher Mazzaia, of S. Windham, Conn., Julie Whipple, of Bozrah, Conn., and Sherry Keily, of Gales Ferry, Conn; daughter in law Stacey Mazzaia; grandchildren Mia, Donimic, Curtis and Connor; son in law Kale Kiely; his brother, David, of Muncie, Ind., and several extended family members.
A memorial service will be held at Seawinds Funeral Home in Sebastian, on Monday, Oct. 31, 2011, at 1 p.m.
Reception will follow and will be announced at the service on Monday.
A memorial service will also be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Gales Ferry, CT with a reception gathering at the Gales Ferry Fire House, at a time and date to be determined.
