VERO BEACH — With the late addition of challenger Dick Winger, all four contenders for two Vero Beach City Council seats will now participate in a forum at 5 p.m. today.
The pubic event is being hosted by local television station TV10 at the Bethel Creek House, 4405 Hwy A-1-A, Vero Beach. Talk show host Marcia Littlejohn will moderate the forum, which will focus on issues concerning Vero Beach Utilities.
The event is being billed as an opportunity for the candidates to not only answer questions, but also to interact with each other and challenge positions and statements their opponents have made on the campaign trail.
So far, Incumbents Brian Heady and Tracy Carroll and challenger Ken Daige had agreed to participate in the forum, which will be aired repeatedly on Channel 10 all weekend.
The station had intended to host the forum in its Vero Beach studios, but ran into legal concerns from the City of Vero Beach.
“The City Attorney said that it could be viewed as a Sunshine Law violation to have Tracy and I in the same studio for a forum that wasn’t open to the public,” said Councilman Heady, who hosts his weekly “Fired Up” call-in show on TV10 and who helped the station manager and producers find a public venue for the event.
