Indian River Rowing Club places third in annual Head of the Indian Creek Regatta

VERO BEACH — The Indian River Rowing Club placed third in the Men’s four division in Miami Beach Sunday Oct. 16 at the annual Head of the Indian Creek Regatta, race for the cure supporting breast cancer.

Their time in this 4500 meter race was 21:21.87. Since there was no mixed category, the regatta officials allowed the Indian River Rowing Club to compete in the men’s division.

The stroke was David Holmes, followed by Bob Snyder, Shotsi Cain Lajoie and Janet Tucker in bow. Ashley Vogl, coxed this crew. Ashley coaches the Sebastian River High School Crews and is a former member of the FIT crew in Melbourne.

Windy conditions plagued the entries with 40 mph gusts that shot through the high rises along the race course along with head and tail winds.

“We were very pleased with our performance. Ashley kept us focused and relaxed as we maneuvered the windy conditions. It was an awesome experience,” said Bob Snyder, one of the four and a board of director of the club.

Indian River Rowing Club is proposing to build a boathouse in the City of Vero Beach and has been negotiating since last February for a parcel of land. The boathouse will serve youth programs as well as those for the disadvantaged and masters rowing categories.
