Habitat homeowners take class to qualify for free refurbished computers

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Since May, Indian River Habitat for Humanity has partnered with Redemtech to provide free refurbished computers for qualified Habitat homeowners. To receive a Red Rabbitt refurbished computer, Habitat homeowners must take and pass a computer training class, conducted by Habitat staff.

According to Habitat Resource Coordinator Debbie Parcher, the program has been a solid success, with 65 computers going to homeowners so far.

Habitat homeowners Cassandra Marion and Patricia Stephens received Red Rabbitt refurbished computers from Redemtech through IRHFH this past summer.

Cassandra and her children are using their computer for a variety of tasks, and Patricia says her computer will improve her children’s reading skills, and assist her in her own scholastic endeavors when she herself returns to school.

Habitat homeowner Shnea Stewart and her daughter, Titeaunna, were excited to pick up their refurbished unit. Shnea plans to take on-line classes to further her education.

So far, 19 computer classes have been conducted as Habitat homeowners seek to streamline their household planning, help their children succeed in school and further their own education.

This partnership program is one of the several ways in which Indian River Habitat works to help ensure Habitat homeowners have the tools they need to become successful, productive members of their community.
