Vero Beach town hall meeting tonight on electric issues

VERO BEACH — The Vero Beach City Council has scheduled a special call town hall meeting for 5 p.m. Tuesday to air concerns and answer questions about the sale of the Vero Beach electric utility to Florida Power and Light.

Councilman Brian Heady requested the meeting in a memo last week and it was placed on the calendar after four out of five of the council members agreed it was a good idea.

City staff and FPL officials are expected to be on hand to field questions and to provide information. A public comment section is listed on the meeting agenda.

Though there have been events held by FPL around the community and an event hosted by Former Mayor Warren Winchester which had a cautious or skeptical bent with regard to the sale, this town hall will be the first time in nearly two years that a special meeting has been called to facilitate a free flow of information specifically about electric issues and the sale.

The meeting will be held in council chambers at the Vero Beach City Hall and will be televised on Channel 13 and streamed live via the internet at www.covb.org. The meeting will be replayed on television this weekend.
