Hanford Keith Codd, Sebastian

Hanford Keith Codd, 85, died Oct. 18, 2011, at his home.

He was born in Bruce Crossing, Mich., and moved to Indian River County 41 years ago from Northern Michigan.

He was an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War, and received two Purple Hearts and a Silver Star.

Before retirement, he was the owner of Anchor Restaurant and the Sugar Shack in Fellsmere.

He also was the former chief of the Fellsmere Fire Department.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Moose Lodge, VFW and the American Legion, all in Sebastian.

Survivors include his sons, Neil Codd of Mass City, Mich., Rick Codd, of Vero Lake Estates, and Steven Codd, of Barefoot Bay; daughters Barbara Hall, of Marquette, Mich., Darlene Hautala, of Benson, Ariz., Denise Luke, of Micco, and Patricia Hall and Gail Grant, both of Port St. John; brothers Philip Codd, of Eufaula, Ala., and Thomas Codd, of Bruce Crossing; sisters, Anastasia Baptiste, of Barefoot Bay and Bernadette Polvi, of Atlanta; 16 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, and son, Michael.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Oct. 24 at St. Luke Catholic Church in Barefoot Bay.

Military honors will follow.
