John F. Knipper, 81, died Oct. 13, 2011, at Sebastian River Medical Center, Roseland.
He was born in New York City and lived in Sebastian for 25 years, coming from Hicksville, N.Y.
He retired from the New York City Police Department as a detective.
He served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the Detectives Endowment Association, both in New York.
He was a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church, past president of the Holy Name Society and a 4th Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Josephine C. Buckley Knipper, of Sebastian; sons, John Knipper, of Huntington, N.Y., and Gerard Knipper, of Tralee, Ireland; daughter, Patricia Knipper, of New York City; and one grandchild.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 17 at Strunk Funeral Home, Sebastian.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Oct. 18 at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, Sebastian, with the Rev. Ducasse Francois celebrant.
Interment will be at South Florida National Cemetery at a later date.
